AWS Well-Architected Framework

Advantages of Cloud - DigitalCloudAdvisor

The AWS Well-Architected Framework is a set of best practices for designing and operating reliable, secure, efficient, and cost-effective systems in the cloud. The framework is based on six pillars: operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, cost optimization and sustainability.

The Six Pillars of the Framework

  1. Operational excellence Pillar refers to the ability to run and monitor systems to deliver business value and to continuously improve processes and procedures.
  2. Security Pillar refers to the protection of information, systems, and assets while delivering business value through risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
  3. Reliability Pillar refers to the ability of a system to recover from infrastructure or service disruptions, dynamically acquire computing resources to meet demand, and mitigate disruptions such as misconfigurations or transient network issues.
  4. Performance efficiency Pillar refers to the ability to use computing resources efficiently to meet system requirements, and to maintain that efficiency as demand changes and technologies evolve.
  5. Cost optimisation Pillar refers to identifying and implementing ways to reduce costs while still meeting system requirements.
  6. Sustainability Pillar makes a handful of recommendations which – alongside other individual best practices – will help organisations build sustainable cloud services

Implementing the Framework

To implement the AWS Well-Architected Framework, we DigitalCloudAvisor can start by conducting a review of your current systems. This review should identify areas for improvement and provide a clear understanding of the risks and opportunities associated with your current architecture.

One common area for improvement is overprovisioning of resources, which can lead to unnecessary costs. To address this, we at  DigitalCloudAvisor can use tools like AWS auto-scaling to ensure that you are only using as much capacity as your workload necessitates.

Another important step is to create a flexible architecture that can adapt to changing business needs and technologies. We at DigitalCloudAvisor can achieve this by using automation to make testing and deployment easier, and by making use of data-driven structures that can be easily updated and maintained.

Security can be as implementing AWS IAM policies following least privileges and the default deny all to fine tune who can access your resources and what they can do. Offering better logging and monitoring in an automated way shares the responsibility of securing your build. So, clients are only responsible for securing their data and applications, the infrastructure falls onto AWS part. The AWS global infrastructure has the broadest Audited and documented compliance amongst cloud providers. It is verified through many 3rd party organizations, that is why it is the first go for governments, banks, healthcare and many others.

One of the big concepts in the IT world is “Every Thing Breaks”, with this always on our minds we DigitalCloudAvisor always think ahead and design for failure. We make sure that your resources remain running securely at optimal levels through high availability and high resiliency, to avoid any down time and outages.

And when all above is working together in harmony and no conflicts, we DigitalCloudAvisor have achieved the operational excellence, as it is not a metric to measure, but a state or running smoothly highly available, resilient and secure setup.

Last but not least the sustainability, we DigitalCloudAvisor make sure no one of your resources are idle, or underutilised, in achieving the optimal running state of your cloud environment, we minimise your power consumption, the use of newer generations of EC2 utilise better processors that cope with heavier workloads while reducing the electricity used.  We at DigitalCloudAvisor, always follow the new innovations and developments that AWS embrace to make sure your company’s infrastructure in the cloud is greener and more sustainable.

Conclusion

The AWS Well-Architected Framework is a powerful tool for designing and operating reliable, secure, efficient, and cost-effective systems in the cloud. By following the Six pillars of the framework, you can ensure that your systems are well-architected and can adapt to changing business needs and technologies. By using the framework to conduct regular reviews, you can identify areas for improvement and take steps to optimize your systems and reduce costs.
